Cleaning and Preparing for Tint/PPF and Decal Installation

Properly cleaning and preparing your car before tint and decal installation is crucial for achieving a successful and long-lasting result as first, waxes, and oil can affect the adhesion of the film. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you through the process:

Cleaning and Preparing for Tint/PPF and Decal Installation:

Materials Needed:

  • Baby Shampoo
  • Water
  • Soft microfiber towels
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Clay Bar
  • Squeegee
  • Steamer/ Heat gun/ Hair dryer

Step 1: Gather Necessary Materials:

Collect all the materials listed above to ensure you have everything you need for a thorough cleaning and preparation process.

Step 2: Choose the Right Location:

Select a clean, dust-free, and well-lit area for the installation process. A garage or shaded space is ideal to prevent direct exposure to sunlight during the installation.

Step 3: Remove Any Existing Films or Decals

Remove any tint/ PPF film by using a steamer and any decals by applying heat to help loosen the material.  Apply a mixture of soapy solution (50% Shampoo + 50% Water) to remove any adhesive residue. 

Step 4: Clean the Specific Area

Thoroughly wash the area you will be working on

  1.  Spraying soapy solution. 
  2. Use a clay bar to help remove any dirt or debris.
  3.  Use a clean microfiber towel to wipe the soapy solution. 
  4. Spray rubbing alcohol to help remove any oils, waxes or residue. 
  5. Wipe off the rubbing alcohol using another clean microfiber towel.  
  6. Spray water
  7. Use a clean squeegee to remove the water and any remaining contaminants.
  8. Pay attention to edged areas around the panels and windows to remove any dirt, grime, or residue.

Step 6: Dry the Area:

Use a clean  microfiber to dry the area. Make sure there are no water spots left

Step 8: Final Inspection:

Inspect the area for any remaining dirt, streaks, or contaminants such as lint.. Address any issues to ensure a clean surface for the tint installation.
