2-Stage & Bottom Load Installation Guide
Simple Step-by-Step Instructions
Video and Written Instruction Below
Hi there! Thank you for getting your Window Tint . This guide will help you install the WPF to your vehicles windshield. Take your time, read slowly, and you’ll do great!
What You Need to Get Started
Tools Needed for Installation:
-
Spray bottle with soapy water/slip solution (baby shampoo or dish soap + distilled water)
- Microfiber Towels
-
Heat Gun
- Squeegee (hard and soft edge)
-
Hard card with felt edge
- Stainless steel razor blade
-
Scrubber pad
- Window cleaner (ammonia-free)
-
Triangle tool (Corner card or reach tool)
- Bulldozer for Back Glass installation (For Sedans)
-
Chizler
- Sponge
-
Dryer Sheet or Baby Powder (For Back Glass Dry Shrinking Method)
- Note: We always recommend using distilled water when creating your slip solution. Distilled water has no minerals which reduces the risk of contamination.
Slip Solution Mixing Guide (16, 24, 32 oz Bottles)
This solution helps you adjust and position the window tint to the glass.
Instructions:
Bottle Size | Distilled water | Baby Shampoo |
---|---|---|
16 oz | ≈14 oz | 1–3 drops |
24 oz | ≈22 oz | 3–5 drops |
32 oz | ≈30 oz | 5–7 drops |
- Add water first then shampoo to avoid foaming.
- When filling the bottle with distilled water leave about 2-3 oz of space so you can add your baby shampoo and have air so the solution can mix well.
- If working in hot, dry conditions, add about 2 more drops for more slip.
- Close and shake gently to mix.
Important Soap Information
This mix gives you the perfect balance of repositionability and adhesion. Only add more soap if you feel the film is not sliding around easy.
Set Up Your Work Area
-
We highly recommend working in an indoor dust controlled environment to prevent any contaminates during install.
-
Can work outdoors but with precautions
-
-
Work early in the morning or late afternoon — avoid peak sun
-
Park the car next to a building or fence to act as a wind block.
-
Choose a wind-free day — wind will blow dust under the film
-
Wet the ground around the vehicle — reduces airborne dust
-
Wipe everything twice
-
Installation Videos Below (Precut):
Heating Shrinking Side Window Tint
-
Spray soapy water to the window and door panel. Wipe off and clean the area with a microfiber towel.
-
Once clean spray soapy water to the glass and place the film to the front of the window. Make sure the liner layer (reflective protective side) is facing towards you.
-
TIP: You will know if the film is in the correct position if the precut follows the same shape of the glass window you are working on.
-
-
Place the tint to the window and make sure the side section closer to the side mirror is not overlapping to the door frame. Give yourself some room so the film lays flat. Also for the bottom section give yourself about half an inch of a gap away from the door gasket so you have room to heat shrink the film.
-
Once you the film has been placed spray slip solution and create an "n" shape with your squeegee. This helps to tack the tint to the window and bringing the fingers towards the middle.
-
Grab your heat gun and turn it on using the highest setting and let it heat up.
-
Gently wave the heat gun over fingers and humps. The fingers should start to look like a squiggle line.
-
Use the hard card with the soft felt to smooth down film as it shrinks.
-
Work from the center outwards.
-
Avoid overheating or burning the film.
-
Once you remove all the fingers from the tint you can leave the film on the glass and start with prepping and installing the tint. Just be careful if you roll down the window to lift the lower section of the tint so it does not get damaged during the install. (See video on how to place the tint after heat shrinking)
Heating Shrinking Rear Windshield
Thoroughly clean the outside of the rear glass by removing any dirt, sticker, adhesive, etc. Dry with a lint-free microfiber towel.
You can prep the windshield for heat shrinking by doing one of two methods, the Dryer Sheet Method or the Baby Powder Method.
Dryer Sheet Method
-
Lightly mist the glass with soapy water.
-
Rub a dryer sheet over the glass until it leaves a thin, even haze.
-
Let it dry completely (do not wipe it off).
Baby Powder Method
-
Mist baby powder lightly to the glass.
-
Buff evenly with your hand or a foam pad and let dry.
Lay & Anchor The Tint Film To The Rear Windshield
- Place the film on the outside of the rear windshield with the liner facing you.
-
Gently flatten it into place and allow some overhang on all sides.
-
Use your hard card to press down an “H” pattern.
-
Vertical line down the center of the glass.
-
Horizontal line across the center.
-
-
This prevents the film from shifting while you shrink.
-
You’ll notice vertical fingers or raised ridges near the top and bottom of the glass.
-
Turn your heat gun on medium heat.
-
Start shrinking in small 6–8 inch sections.
-
Just like the side windows, Hover the heat gun and wave it side to side over a fingered area.
-
As fingers rise slightly, use your hard card to gently push them flat.
-
Always move from the center out or top-down/bottom-up, depending on how fingers are forming.
-
Avoid overheating one spot — keep moving and apply even pressure.
- Do this until all fingers are gone and the film conforms smoothly to the glass curvature.
-It is important to take your time when shrinking the rear windshield tint. Work in zones, not all at once.
Cleaning & Prepping For Install
-
If you are doing the bottom load method, research on how to remove the door panel and the window gasket from your vehicle. Once removed you may proceed to cleaning the windows. For 2-Stage method you need to make sure to cover the door panel without removing it.
-
Always cover your door panels to prevent water damage to the door and electronic components.
-
Roll down the windows to wipe the side sections of the frame.
-
Roll the window back up but leave a small gap so you can clean the inside of the glass.
-
Remove any stickers that the inside of the glass may have.
-
Spray soapy water to the glass and with a scrub pad start removing any contaminates that the glass may have.
-
Once done completely squeegee off the dirty soapy water and also wipe off any contaminates from the top section of the glass.
-
To remove the dirty soapy water from the lower section of the window you can flush it out by spraying soapy water.
-
Once you remove the dirty soapy water. Reapply a generous amount of soapy water to the inside of the glass to get it ready for the install. Spray soapy water on the side edges also to help the tint slide in for a clean install.
-
Before removing the protective layer from the tint, spray a bit of soapy water to the tips of your fingers that way you reduce the chances of leaving fingerprint marks on the adhesive of the film.
-
If you are doing the bottom load method you want to remove the entire liner from the tint. If you are doing the 2-stage method then only expose and remove the liner from the top section of the tint and only remove it to about half way of the film (See video for better understanding).
Bottom Load Method Install
-
Make sure the window is rolled down and you can see the top edge of the glass line (about 2 fingers of space).
-
Once you have peeled the liner off the tint, apply a generous amount slip solution to the adhesive side of the tint. If you haven't already, spray the inside of the glass to allow for easier positioning.
-
With both arms hold the tint horizontally like a taco, adhesive side toward the glass.
-
Lower the bottom edge of the tint down into the door frame, behind the rubber seal or into the opening.
-
Align the top edge with the glass line.
-
Gently slide and align the tint into perfect position. Make sure it covers the entire window.
-
Spray soapy water on the surface of the tint. With your thumb hold the film in position and use the squeegee to lightly tack down the center.
-
Squeegee out from center to top, then center to sides using overlapping stroke.
-
TIP: Once you secured the top section you can use the heat gun to apply heat on the front of the window to help the adhesive activate faster.
-
-
Then squeegee the bottom half with smooth, firm strokes.
-
Make sure remove all of the solution from under the film to avoid any bubbles.
-
If needed use a triangle tool to reach and squeegee the edges of the tint.
-
Once you have squeegeed the entire top section of the tint carefully roll up the window so you can finish tacking down the remaining bottom section of the tint.
-
Before moving on to the next window always inspect the film to see if there are any areas you might have missed to tack down.
-
Once final inspection has been done, to help the adhesive activate faster you can apply heat on the front outside section of the window with your heat gun. Apply heat evenly so the entire tint starts to cure.
-
Remove any covers and wipe off any water residue on the door panel.
-
Reinstall the door panel and install any screws and covers that were removed.
2-Stage Method
-
For the 2-Stage method you will not need to remove the door panels. Just follow the same prep and cleaning steps as before, and make sure the door panel is covered.
-
Make sure the window is rolled down again about 2 finger space.
- Once the prep is complete spray soapy water to the inside of the glass. Apply slip solution to your finger tips and start peeling the liner about half way of the tint. Apply slip solution to top layer of the exposed section of the film.
- Carefully transfer the film to the inside of the glass. Tuck in and align the film on one edge first and carefully tuck in and align the other top edge of the film.
-
Once the top section of the tint is aligned, Use your soft squeegee to press the film into place from center-out. Remove all solution and air under the film.
-
If needed use a triangle tool to reach and squeegee the edges of the tint.
-
- Once the top layer of the tint is secured, use a heat gun to help the adhesive of the tint cure faster that way you can carefully roll the window up.
- Now that the window is rolled up now the bottom half of the tint is remaining. Lift the lower section carefully and apply soapy water on the lower section of the glass. We need the glass to have the slip solution that way it is easy to tuck in and align the tint.
- Now carefully remove the remaining liner from the film. Make sure you are not lifting the tint where it has already been tacked down cause that may damage the adhesive. Use one hand to hold the tint as you remove the liner with your other hand.
- If you see that the soapy water is drying up reapply slip solution so you can tuck in the film under the sweep.
- When tucking the film under the window sweep you can use a the shank tool to help move the sweep away from the glass that way you are able to tuck in the film. We recommend starting from one bottom edge first. The tuck in the other edge and finish tucking in the middle portion of the film.
- Use the squeegee to tack down the bottom section of the tint. Don't forget to squeegee the edges of the tint.
- Inspect that everything is good on the tint. Once final inspection is good and all the solution has been removed from under the film you can apply heat using a heat gun to the outside of the glass to help the adhesive cure.
- Clean up the area you were working on and wipe off any water residue on the door panel if any.
Removing Fingers
"Fingers" are raised air or moisture-filled lines or ridges that form after the film has been installed, usually during final squeegeeing or drying. They typically happen due to residual water under the film, film tension from shrinkage or curve pressure, improper edge sealing/heat shrink.
-
Depending where the fingers are located usually you can work them out as long as the tint hasn't dried or cured yet.
-
Gently apply a heat gun 4–6 inches away from the finger. Keep the gun moving in a sweeping motion — don’t stay in one spot.
- As the film softens, use your felt card or soft squeegee to slowly press the finger flat, working from tip to base.
-
If the squeegee can not reach the fingers you want to tack down you can use a triangle tool to tuck and squeegee the film.
Aftercare Instructions
-
Do NOT roll down your windows. Rolling windows down too soon can peel or wrinkle the film before it has fully cured. We recommend waiting 3-5 days to let the tint properly cure before rolling down the windows.
- After the install you may notice some water pockets or light haziness which is completely normal. They should naturally evaporate as the tint heals.
- Avoid using ammonia-based cleaners. Only use tint-safe cleaners like:
-
Invisible Glass/Sprayway Glass Cleaner (tint-safe version)
-
Want to Remove the Film Later?
No problem! Here's how:
-
Heat it first.
-
Use a heat gun or steamer to warm up the film to help soften the adhesive. Caution: Do not overheat the glass.
-
Slowly peel off tint from a corner and if needed apply heat as you continuing peeling.
-
Clean Leftover Adhesive Residue.
-
Spray area generously with warm soapy water and let it sit for 2-3 minutes. You can also use adhesive remover cleaners.
-
Razor blade or scraper (plastic or stainless steel). For rear windshield use a scrub pad for cleaning to prevent damages to the defrost grid lines.
-
Final wipe.
-
Wipe with a clean lint-free microfiber towel.
-
